CAL COAST CARES:
Cal Coast Academy’s community service program, Cal Coast Cares (C3), allows students to experience in a dynamic way by actively participating in a variety of local service opportunities.
The main goal of our community service requirement is to provide our student body with the realization of what it means to serve and to grow emotionally from this service. Cal Coast Cares offers a number of community service projects throughout each academic school year which students are encouraged to partake in. A service-learning component is incorporated into each of our C3 service projects so students come to understand and appreciate the “What” and the “Why” of community service.
Community service hours are to be completed after school hours, on weekends, or during summer and/or vacation periods. All community service hours completed outside of those offered by C3 must be documented by a Reflection Form, and submitted within three months of completion.
Freshman, sophomore, and junior students are required to complete twenty qualifying community service hours each year. Seniors are required to complete forty qualifying community service hours. Service hours are carried forward from year to year.
SERVICE REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Freshman : 20 hours
Sophomores : 40 hours
Juniors : 60 hours
Seniors : 100 hours
Community service hours for Jr. High students are completed solely through the participation of our C3 offered projects. Jr. High students are required to complete and submit a Reflection Form for each community service project they participate in.
Transferring students must meet with our C3 Director to determine if community service hours from another school will be accepted. In some circumstances, an equitable adjustment of the required number of hours for graduation commensurate with the time actually spent as a student at Cal Coast Academy.
