The Cal Coast Academy Expected School-Wide Learning Results (ESLRs) continue to promote our holistic approach to student learning and character development. Our goal has continually remained to serve the whole student, inside and beyond the academic classroom. Each of our 7 ESLRs may be classified under one of three interdependent categories: personal growth, collective cooperation, and universal contribution.

Cal Coast Academy’s faculty and staff members first began the process of determining our ESLRs in the Spring of 2005. A number of brainstorming sessions were held regarding the qualities, knowledge, and skills we wanted our students to posses when they graduated. Faculty and staff members collaboratively arranged these concepts and then classified them by their focuses. On September 8, 2005, a stakeholder meeting was held to review the synthesized information. During this meeting, stakeholders reviewed the school mission statement before collectively discussing the qualities they wanted for their own children to obtain as graduates of Cal Coast Academy. Not coincidentally, the parents’ areas of emphasis matched what the faculty and staff members had proposed. A draft of the school ESLRs was emailed to and then endorsed by the stakeholders in mid December 2005.

Since the conception of our ESLRs in late 2005 to the present, few changes have been required. Each year at one of our two faculty and staff August in-service meetings, every employee reflects on the school mission statement, core values, and ESLRs while simultaneously taking into account our student population and our changing demographics. Stakeholders convene annually in September to also review the mission statement, core values, and ESLRs. Annual revision of the school mission statement, core values, and ESLRs reaffirms our commitment to student success.

At the commencement of the 2011-12 school year, as part of our commitment to student success, we began focusing on implementing one ESLR category per year. By concentrating on a singular ESLR per year, we are able to help students fully understand the significance of each of our 7 ESLRs. This practice affirms our purpose – to meet the academic, social, and personal needs of every student.

The Cal Coast Academy mission statement, core values, and ESLRs have always, and will always, guide every aspect of our school’s purpose.
